Device Capabilities
Downbeat's sensory package uses a variety of calming measures customizable to the user's preference. Downbeat works through the following features:
Heart Rate Monitor: A sensor monitors the user's heart rate, and automatically deploys the sensory feedback measures if a sudden rise in heart rate is detected
Auditory Feedback: A small speaker automatically plays a sound file pre-uploaded by the user via a micro SD card. This sound file can be a song that the user knows calms them down, or an assuring voice recording from someone close to them; anything that might lower their stress levels during an attack.
Haptic Motor: A pulsing motor vibrates to a beat determined by readings from the heart rate monitor. It pulses at a rate slightly less than that of the user, and continues to coerce their heart rate down.
LEDs: Several LEDs flash at a brightness that illuminates the device through the user's clothing, alerting those nearby that the user needs assistance.
