Indie culture tends to value craft and quality in its products mare than the average consumer. Hand knitted beanies, canvas and leather satchels, locally produced music, are examples of the average indie user's deviation from mainstream consumerism. In other words, they prefer paying a premium for something that will last rather than inexpensive but low quality items, and if that item showcases some kind of element of craft its a bonus.

CRAFT

Indie culture tends to value craft and quality in its products more than the average consumer.They prefer paying a premium for something that will last rather than inexpensive but low quality items, and if that item happens to showcase an element of craft its a bonus.

MATERIALITY

Materiality is the marker of indie culture. Canvas and leather satchels, plaid flannel button downs, wood and brick interior motifs, all reflect the average indie-vidual's appreciation for earthy, natural aesthetics.

MODEST LIVING

The indie generation overlaps with the millennial condition of conservative living. They're saving cost through modest living conditions, avoiding larger home purchases for things like small apartments, "tiny houses", even converted vehicles. Therefore real estate for material possessions is far more limited among this group.

After analyzing a Nintendo Gamecube controller inside and out, I determined several ways that I could transform it into an indie-friendly rendition. Empty volume in the casing, poor cable management, and an all plastic build were the three areas I decided to overhaul.
